About 6 weeks ago I decided to launch a social bookmarking site using an open source application (Pligg) to manage the site. The concept is to provide news about the Web 2.0 industry covering topics such as social networking, widgets, Video / Photo / File sharing sites, and others who concentrate on user generated content. This site also has 2 other sections, one providing reviews, interviews and product demos; and the other a resource directory of the different websites out there doing Web 2.0.
Initial Launch
The first few weeks I concentrated on building up content and trying grass roots ways of getting traffic. I sourced news releases from 2 industry blogs Mashable & Tech Crunch, I also participated on their websites by commenting on their stories and pinging their posts when I added them to the site.
The Results
The traffic to the site has grown to around 500 visits per day which is actually good considering not much time has been put into marketing. The site also has a good amount of content to it which is what the initial goal is all about. The foundation is set to begin taking the site to another level.
May Goals
The goal in May is to take the site from being a pet project, to a viable site / source for up to date Web 2.0 news. I think this can be achieved in a few simple ways, I’ll be sharing some of those thoughts throughout the month giving you the results.
